JORGE ROCHET ’25

My name is Jorge Rochet and I am a freshman. Acting and singing have been my two main passions since I was in third grade. Through these two forms of Art, I discovered and redefined myself. The two things that make acting so special to me are its ability to heal and how it increases the level of empathy within humans. I have come out being a different person with all of the 13 plays/pieces I have acted in. All of them have helped me overcome any sort of traumatic past or hurting issue. I find it extremely fascinating how through the portrayal of different characters in theater, actors are able to make the audience empathize and feel a broad range of emotions. I believe that empathy is everything we need to understand each other and better our society. The work that I submitted has been one of the most challenging pieces I have ever done. One of my favorite lines from this piece is “Rejoice. The broken are the more evolved. Rejoice.” I think that line sums up everything that the monologue/movie is about. Those who experience any kind of trauma, no matter how old, end up being more mature and independent in life. Not only was this project emotionally challenging, but also physically (the Beast). The reason why I only used a chair as a prop is to only engage the audience through my voice, body movement, projection, diction, sense of truth in voice, etc. I liked the challenge of not using any props because I think it made me grow as an actor since I completely relied on just my body and imagination to tell Kevin’s story. I dove myself deep into the psychology behind the main character, Kevin, and his different personalities. I am so grateful that I was able to research about this movie and had the opportunity to portray such interesting character. I hope that the viewers are able immerse themselves with me in this crazy story and feel for Hedwig, Patricia, Dennis, the Beast, and of course, Kevin.
